#MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 VILLAIN SERIES#
Abrams’ entry is sometimes strained and maudlin, and it earned less than its predecessors at the box office, but it’s an admirable series reset with a couple of sequences – the Vatican heist and the Shanghai skyscraper leap – that expand the parameters of what Cruise could pull off. In an equally disturbing later scene, an emotionally unstable Hunt returns the favor by threatening to drop Hoffman’s villain from a plane. The film, which opens with a pre-credit sequence in which Hunt and his wife are threatened with torture by a sadistic arms dealer (Philip Seymour Hoffman, the nastiest and best “Mission: Impossible” villain so far), also gestures toward political developments outside the series’ cartoon universe. Here, Ethan has a wife (Michelle Monaghan), a suburban home, a cover story about working with the Department of Transportation and a sense of palpable anguish. Tom Cruise spelar terigen rollen som IMF-agenten Ethan Hunt. Abrams’ entry in the series (as well as his first feature film) attempts to ground Ethan Hunt’s covert operations in a realm of recognizable human stakes. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (ven knd som Mission: Impossible V) r en amerikansk actionfilm i regi av Christopher McQuarrie efter ett manus av Drew Pearce och Will Staples. In the first scene of the film, Tom Cruise runs from the ground and flies through the sky on the side of an airplane. Realism isn’t a word normally associated with “Mission: Impossible,” but J.J. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation starts off on another level. (It also has one of the funniest depictions of early internet usage I’ve ever seen.)

Like many De Palma films, it could be considered a self-conscious movie about movies, but it’s less interested in subversiveness than suspense. The Langley break-in (with Cruise suspended by a thin wire in a highly sensitive CIA vault) is a work of impeccable choreography – the rare action movie sequence defined by silence and stillness as much as movement – and the climactic helicopter-in-a-train-tunnel chase is a marvel of classical technique. It’s an elegant, precisely engineered heist thriller, suffused with post-Cold War intrigue, that orients itself around a handful of unforgettable set pieces.

The TV series is a cold war relic, and the IMF in the movie is as well. Really the next three movies after MI3 are equal in quality to me and MI2 has a dropoff in my opinion. The series’ brand of sophistication and silliness was first established by director Brian De Palma, who introduces the IMF squad as a confident, fully-formed entity, and then kills off half the team (including Emilio Estevez and Kristin Scott Thomas) during a failed mission in Prague in the first half-hour. Answer (1 of 3): I dont think its an insult. I go with Fallout next- Cavill is a badass in this one and it doesnt get more entertaining than the helicopter scene. Then you got PSH who is the most convincing villain maybe ever, in any movie. His 'are we really f**in doing this right now' face is perfect for these movies. This is probably more in line with how masters of the universe.

Plus you got Renner - probably the best 2nd lead in any MI movie. Indeed, the arch-villain of Mission: Impossible ignores the performance and monitors the backstage mayhem on his smartphone. It has the best stretch in any MI film from when Cruise scales up the burj khalifa, makes the fake exchange and runs through an amazing looking sandstorm. I've rewatched these movies several times over (that includes Fallout!) and still have Ghost Protocol as the overall best. Rogue Nation and Fallout are great but not the best MI movies.

I definitely think the rankings on these movies is affected by a recency bias. The one and only time anyone utters the phrase in the entire movie series.

GP has the best use of a license song, especially if you're a Fallout New Vegas fan.Īlso, I will never get tired of Tom Cruise saying "Mission Accomplished" in GP.

Ghost Protocol has the best set pieces (Dubai and the prision break scene).

Rogue Nation has the best action scene in the Moracco car chase scene. Fallout doesn't have that kind of signature scene. The kind of scene that makes a Mission Impossible movie, a Mission Impossible movie. I feel Fallout's one flaw is the lack of signature mission scene like all of the other MI films you know, like the Langley scene in MI1, the kidnapping scene in MI3 (or the theft of the Rabbit's Foot), the Dubai tower switcheroo scene in GP, and the scene where they steal the codes in RN. It has the perfect mix of action, suspense, character development, and humor that none of the other films were able to completely replicate. I still think Ghost Protocol is still the best, despite the questionable visual effects and poor villain.
